Star cluster NGC 6823 is an open cluster located in the constellation Vulpecula. It is about 50 light-years in diameter and lies about 6,000 light-years from Earth. The cluster's center contains young, bright blue stars, while its outer regions contain even younger stars and the emission nebula NGC 6820.

The cluster formed only about two million years ago and is dominated by bright stars. The huge columns of gas and dust in the nebula were probably sculpted into elongated shapes by the destructive effects of hot radiation from the cluster's brightest stars. NGC 6823 is part of the Vulpecula OB1 stellar association.

NGC 6820 is a small reflection nebula located near the open cluster NGC 6823. The nebula and cluster are contained within the larger, faint emission nebula Sh 2-86, which is sometimes also called NGC 6820.

NGC 6823 is visible with small binoculars due to its apparent magnitude of 7.1. Also nearby are the Silly Bell Nebula (M27), located 3 degrees to the east, and α Vulpeculae, located 3 degrees to the west.
