Each stargazing event is unique, but we follow a general scenario to make it interesting and convenient for all participants.
Event announcement
Stargazing events in Orenburg are held in good weather, so the exact date is known only 2-3 days before. We announce upcoming trips in our Telegram channel "Look at the Stars", where we post announcements and important updates. Subscription is required so you don't miss a new stargazing event.
Stargazing registration
To participate, you need to register in advance on our website. It's free and takes just a minute. Beware of scammers - if someone asks for payment, it's a scam! We welcome donations, but participation is always free.
Location
Stargazing events are held out of town, away from city lights, usually 40 km from Orenburg. The exact location is revealed after registration. Get there on your own, so check the route in advance. The last section is a dirt road about 300 meters long.
Stargazing event plan
Arrival
Arrive 15–20 minutes early to get a good spot. Bring folding chairs or mats for comfort.
Astronomy lecture
As dusk falls, our astronomy lecture begins. On a big screen, we show videos and photos, talking about space in an accessible and interesting way. Topics vary: from "Perseid meteor shower" to "What do black holes hide". Lectures are for ages 8+ and last about an hour.
Star orientation
After the lecture, we teach you to find main stars and constellations, showing them in the sky. This part lasts about 20 minutes.
Telescope observation
Several telescopes are set up, each aimed at specific space objects. You can look through telescopes, ask questions, and talk to astronomers.
Event duration
The whole stargazing event lasts 2 to 4 hours. You can leave anytime, but many stay until the end, enjoying the starry sky.
Mandatory recommendations
Please read the "Stargazing rules" section to make the event comfortable and safe for everyone.
Thematic evenings
Sometimes we hold sidewalk astronomy right in the city. Details about such events are in the "Where to look through a telescope in Orenburg" section.
