September 5, 2017 at 20:00 Orenburg Astronomy Club "Orion" invites you to another open-air astronomy lecture as part of the RIA56 project "Look at the Stars".
This time the topic of the meeting will be a controversial and intriguing question: UFOs - truth or fiction? The problem of the existence of unidentified flying objects causes a slight smile or distrust in most ordinary people. Do they really exist, these mysterious UFOs, or is it just a figment of human imagination that has become an established social myth? We will introduce you to the most famous cases of UFO falsifications, analyze popular myths and their debunking.

- Location: 30 km from Orenburg along the Saraktash highway (the exact location will be announced before the event).
- For those who do not know how to get there: meet at 20:00 at the monument to Yuri Gagarin (Gagarin Avenue) in the pocket on the way to the center.

Participation conditions:
- Participation is paid: 200 rubles per person.

- It is recommended to have a personal vehicle. If this is not possible, you can find free places with other participants.

- The first part of the program is a lecture on UFOs, crop circles and attempts to establish contact with extraterrestrial civilizations.
- The second part is observing the Moon through telescopes.

On September 5, 2017, another astronomical trip took place, dedicated to the topic UFOs - truth or fiction?
Lecture:
- About 30 amateur astronomers gathered in a forest clearing to listen to a lecture on the UFO phenomenon, crop circles and attempts by earthlings to establish contact with extraterrestrial civilizations.
- With the help of a large screen and a projector, known cases of UFO observations were analyzed. It was established that most reports of "flying saucers" have a completely earthly explanation: rocket launches, meteorological probes, tests of new aircraft, rare atmospheric phenomena, or even jokes.
- Sergei Medvedev spoke about strange radio signals received from space and about attempts by earthlings to establish communication with aliens. Information was also mentioned about a project to create miniature satellites to study the closest star system to us - Alpha Centauri.
Quiz:
- After the main part of the lecture, the participants took part in a quiz: they had to determine the name of the film based on the frames on the screen. The selection was thematic, related to UFOs and aliens.
Observations:
- The second part of the event was devoted to observing the Moon through modern computerized telescopes.
- The participants had two telescopes at their disposal: one with a main mirror diameter of 254 mm and the second - 200 mm.
- Thanks to good meteorological conditions and a calm atmosphere, it was possible to examine the surface of the Moon in great detail: craters, seas, bays, shadows from the mountains. Participants could use the remote control of a computerized telescope to "fly" over the surface of our satellite.
Features of the event:
- This time the event was held not on Mount Goryun, but much closer - within the city. This decision was due to the fact that the main object of observation was the Moon. Due to its brightness, it was impossible to observe deep space objects, so there was no need to move away from the city.
