- The third part is observations through telescopes: globular clusters, double stars, galaxies.
Results of the astronomical trip
August 23, 2017 Orenburg amateur astronomers of the Orion club completed the summer season of astronomical observations. Despite the fact that it was a weekday, the event brought together about 50 participants, which was an excellent end to the season.
Lecture:
- The main topic of the trip was the danger emanating from space objects. The lecturers talked about the real "monsters" of the Universe: black holes, quasars, pulsars, hypernovae and neutron stars.
- Popular myths about the "end of the world" were debunked and real scenarios for the death of life on Earth were told. - Particular attention was paid to asteroids and comets, including the famous asteroid Apophis, which will pass dangerously close to our planet in 2029 and 2036.
New format:
- For the first time, a projector with a large screen was used at the asteroid show to demonstrate visual materials. This format became a new stage in holding events and will be used more often.
Observations:
- After the lecture, the participants observed the night sky. Sergey Medvedev spoke about the brightest constellations of the coming autumn and what objects can be observed in late autumn and early winter. - The powerful computerized telescope SkyWatcher Dob 10" with a primary mirror diameter of 254 mm allowed us to observe:
- Globular clusters.
- Double stars.
- The Andromeda Galaxy.
- A camera for photographing deep-space objects was connected to the 200 mm astrograph, which allowed us to compare visual and computer observations.
Acknowledgments:
- Many thanks to all participants for their active participation and interest in astronomy!
- Special thanks to the "Hometowns" program of "Gazpromneft-Orenburg" for the equipment provided.
"Now cooler autumn nights, observations of autumn constellations, nebulae and galaxies await us. Until next time!"
