The Perseids – Time for Meteors

An "astro-trip" is an outdoor popular-science event organized by the "Look at the Stars" project, offering participants a chance to experience real astronomy firsthand: observing celestial objects through telescopes and learning about stars, planets, and the cosmos through direct conversation with astronomers and enthusiasts. It is more than just a tour—it is an atmospheric open-air event where science, art, and social interaction come together.

Why now? August is one of the most beautiful months for stargazing. It is during this time that Earth passes through the debris trail left by Comet Swift-Tuttle, igniting one of the year's most spectacular meteor showers—the Perseids—in the night sky.

The Perseids are "shooting stars," or meteors, that flare up in the sky, leaving behind bright, fleeting streaks. At the peak of activity, you can see up to 100 meteors per hour. It is a truly mesmerizing sight!

What can you expect at the astro-trip? 🔭 Telescopes — We will bring powerful astronomical equipment allowing you to view lunar craters, Jupiter’s moons, Saturn’s rings, as well as binary stars and distant nebulae. Our experts will help you aim the telescopes and explain exactly what you are seeing.

🌠 Perseid Observation — We will "catch shooting stars" together while lying on sleeping pads and blankets beneath the vast open sky. Don't forget to make a wish!

🪐 Educational Talks and Lectures — You will learn where meteor showers come from, what light pollution is, and how to distinguish a star from a planet with the naked eye. 👕 Exclusive space-themed merch — we’re bringing unique souvenirs for participants, including T-shirts with one-of-a-kind prints. Sizes are available for both children and adults. It’s a fantastic way to cherish the memory of a night spent closer to the stars.

Who is organizing this? The event is organized by the popular science project "Smotri na Zvezdy" (Look at the Stars) and the "Orenburg Media" editorial team, with support from Gazprom Neft’s "Rodnye Goroda" (Native Cities) social investment program.
