Stargazing - Observations with telescopes (06.10.2017)

June 10, 2017 as part of the RIA56 project "Look at the Stars", the Orenburg Astronomical Club "Orion" held another astronomical trip. The event was held outside the city, on Mount Goryun, to provide ideal conditions for observing the starry sky.

Event details

Astrotrip program

Planned observations:

  • Giant planets: Jupiter and Saturn.
  • Moon: surface details, craters and seas.
  • Globular and open clusters, galaxies, nebulae: deep space objects.
  • Constellations of the Northern Sky: a story about legends and orientation among the stars.

Equipment:

  • Sky-Watcher Dob 10" SynScan: the largest telescope in the Orenburg region with a primary mirror diameter of 250 mm and an autoguidance system.
  • Sky-Watcher 150 mm: a telescope on an equatorial mount.
  • Sky-Watcher 130 mm: a telescope with autoguidance.
  • Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope: a compact and powerful instrument.

Master class:

  • Astrophotography: participants could attach their DSLR cameras to telescopes to photograph deep-sky objects.

Astrovise results

On June 10, 2017 about 50 people gathered on Mount Goryun to spend the night under the starry sky. Unfortunately, difficult meteorological conditions did not allow the planned observations to be carried out. However, the event was eventful and interesting!

Lectures and stories:

  • Sergey Medvedev, Mikhail Topchilo and a lecturer from the Orenburg Planetarium gave fascinating lectures on astronomy, telescopes and the starry sky.

  • Participants learned about different types of telescopes and their structure.

Quiz:

  • A quiz with prizes was held. Participants actively answered questions related to astronomy and space.

Equipment:

  • The event featured a record number of telescopes of different types:

  • The largest Sky-Watcher Dob 10" SynScan.

  • Several classic Newtonian telescopes.

  • A compact and powerful Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope.

"Unfortunately, instead of stars we observed clouds, but this did not prevent us from holding an interesting and educational event. We hope that next time we will have clear skies!"
