Stargazing - Observations with telescopes (06.29.2017)

June 29, 2017 as part of the RIA56 project "Look at the Stars", the Orenburg Astronomical Club "Orion" held another astronomical trip. The event was held outside the city, on Mount Goryun, to provide ideal conditions for observing the starry sky.

Event information

Venue:

  • Location: Mount Goryun, 30 km from Orenburg along the Saraktash highway.
  • For those who do not know how to get there: meet at 9:00 at the monument to Yuri Gagarin (Gagarin Avenue) in the pocket on the way to the center.

Date and time: 06/29/2017

Participation conditions:

  • Participation is paid: 200 rubles per person.
  • Children - free.
  • It is recommended to have a personal vehicle. If this is not possible, you can find free seats with other participants.

Necessary things:

  • Warm clothes (it is cool at night).
  • A camping mat or chair for comfortable seating.
  • Tea in a thermos, cookies, candies.
  • Good mood!

Astrotrip program

Lectures and stories:

  • Legends and constellations of the northern sky: Sergey Medvedev spoke about the myths and legends associated with the constellations, and taught how to navigate among the stars.
  • Planets of the Solar System: Mikhail Topchilo presented interesting facts about the planets, their properties and the myths associated with them. - Evolution of stars: Vladimir Ivanovich gave a short lecture on the life cycle of stars.

Observations:

  • The Moon, Jupiter and Saturn: the participants observed these objects through telescopes. The image from the 10-inch telescope was displayed on the laptop screen for ease of observation.
  • Double stars: Mizar-Alcor, Albireo.
  • Globular clusters: M13, M22, M28.
  • Double open cluster Chi and Ash Persei: the appearance of the object made a strong impression on all participants.

Equipment:

  • Sky-Watcher Dob 10" SynScan: the largest telescope in the Orenburg region with a primary mirror diameter of 250 mm and an automatic guidance system.
  • Sky-Watcher 150 mm: a telescope on an equatorial mount.
  • Sky-Watcher 130 mm: a telescope with automatic guidance.
  • Schmidt-Cassegrain 150 mm: a rare telescope showing a contrast picture of the planets and the Moon.

Master class:

  • Astrophotography: participants took pictures of bright nebulae in the constellations Sagittarius and Scorpio.

Results of the astro tour

On June 29, 2017 about 50 people gathered on Mount Goryun to spend the day under the starry sky.

Lectures and Stories:

  • Sergey Medvedev gave a fascinating lecture on the legends and constellations of the northern sky, teaching the participants how to navigate among the stars.
  • Mikhail Topchilo spoke about the planets of the Solar System, their properties and the myths associated with them.
  • Vladimir Ivanovich explained the basics of the evolution of stars, which helped the participants better understand the structure of the Universe.

Observations:

  • The participants observed the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn through telescopes. They were especially impressed by the opportunity to see the satellites of these planets and the details of their cloud layer.
  • Double stars (Mizar-Alcor, Albireo) and globular clusters (M13, M22, M28) appeared before the observers in all their glory.
  • The double open cluster Chi and Ash Persei caused particular delight among all the participants.

Astrophotography Master Class:

  • The astrophotography trip ended with shooting bright nebulae in the constellations of Sagittarius and Scorpio.
